A supplier’s request to keep its company name on export paperwork can have a legitimate commercial reason: preserving the documented export and tax-rebate arrangement. But a name on a bill of lading alone does not prove rebate entitlement, and a cheaper quote does not explain the paperwork chain.
The official context: China’s State Taxation Administration Announcement 2026 No. 5 sets out export refund administration. Direct export and entrusted export use different supporting records, including export declarations or an entrusted-export certificate (代理出口货物证明); purchase-side tax documentation can also matter. Legitimate agency export exists. Confirm the applicable route with the exporter’s tax professional.
This is an explainer using the 2026 framework, not an announcement of a new September deadline. Read the official rules in Chinese.
Make the quote and company names explainable
- Map each role. Ask who is the contracting seller, manufacturer, payment recipient, exporter on the Chinese declaration, shipper on the transport document and destination importer. Different names need an explanation and supporting relationships; they are not automatically fraud.
- Ask what the price assumes. Does it depend on this supplier managing export clearance or receiving an expected rebate? What changes if you use your own forwarder or consolidate elsewhere?
- Agree consolidation before collection. Have suppliers and the forwarder confirm how orders will be declared and documented. Physical consolidation does not settle the export or tax records for each supplier.
- Keep evidence before payment. Obtain the identities, agreed payment instructions and document responsibilities in writing. Verify an unexpected beneficiary change independently through a known contact.
- Stop at an unexplained mismatch. Requests to misstate value, goods or parties are different from a documented agency arrangement. Get qualified advice before agreeing to altered paperwork.
The buyer question behind this explainer
A Reddit discussion about combining several Alibaba orders raised shipper-name restrictions and a manufacturer’s export-rebate arrangements. This is the operational question our research identified. It is not evidence of a universal rule that goods from different suppliers cannot travel together.
Our practical assessment: compare the complete transaction. A quote tied to one export arrangement may cease to be comparable when you change the forwarder, payment flow or consolidation plan.
What the name cannot tell you
There is no single rebate rate for every product, and no basis here for promising that a rebate will be received or passed to the buyer. The goods, exporter, supporting documents and transaction must be checked together. Chinese export-side paperwork also does not settle who is the US importer of record.

Questions you might have
These answers start with the decision in front of you, then name the evidence and the limit.
Why does my Chinese supplier want its company name on the export documents for a tax rebate?
The quote may depend on a documented export-rebate arrangement. Ask which entity exports, which documents support that arrangement, and what changes if you consolidate or use your own forwarder. Legitimate agency exports exist; a different shipper name is not automatically fraud. A transport-document name alone does not establish rebate entitlement.
What to check
- Seller, beneficiary, exporter and shipper identities
- Written reason for the requested names
- Quote changes if the export arrangement changes
- Supplier and forwarder agreement before consolidation
Limit: Eligibility and rates depend on the goods and transaction; ask the exporter's tax professional to confirm documentation.
